Introducing Growing with God (Part 1)
An Invitation to Slow Down, Listen Deeply, and Grow Gently
There’s a song I’ve had on repeat lately.
It’s by Cat Burns, and it goes like this:
“Thought I’d be flyin’ by now – but I feel so glued to the ground. I look around, everybody’s in the same boat… so let go, and know that you’re not alone.”
I think that’s where a lot of us are right now.
Not stuck, exactly, just not soaring. Not failing, just a little frayed. Not faithless, just figuring it out slowly. Feet on the ground when we expected wings by now.
And in the quiet spaces between that ache and that hope – Growing with God was born.
This hasn’t been rushed. It’s not a programme pulled from a shelf or a course with ten quick wins. It’s the result of deep listening – to God, to others, to the quiet inner places where our longings sit.
Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of sitting with individuals and communities, pioneers, practitioners, friends and leaders – people navigating change, carrying questions, or sensing that something new is being asked of them.
In the tension between “what was” and “what might be,” something special began to take shape. Not a strategy. Not a solution.
A rhythm.
Growing with God is built around three simple movements – SPACE, EXPLORE, and PRACTICE – each designed to help us grow not by pushing harder, but by paying closer attention. By noticing what God is already doing. By daring to believe there’s another way.
The Pilots – And What We Heard
Earlier this year, we invited a handful of teams and individuals to experience the first taster sessions.
They were gentle, reflective, and honest. And the feedback was humbling.
“It was a soul-soothing breath.”
“I didn’t feel behind. I didn’t feel like I had to prove anything.”
“It gave language to what I’ve been carrying for a long time.”
“It helped me realise I’m not alone – and I don’t have to figure this out on my own.”
This is the kind of space I longed for in my own journey. Not a place to perform. But a place to breathe. To be real. To listen again.
When Nothing Feels Like Home
There’s a line in that Cat Burns song that gets me every time: “When nothing feels like home – it’s good to know, know that you’re not alone.”
And maybe that’s the heart of it.
That strange homesick feeling so many of us carry. Even when life looks fine on the outside. Even when everything's technically working. There’s this quiet ache – this longing for a deeper kind of belonging.
And I don’t think it’s a flaw. I think it’s something holy. A signpost. A reminder that we’re wired for something more.
Home, in its truest form, isn’t just a postcode or a perfect plan. It’s presence. It’s peace. It’s knowing we are held – even when we don’t have it all figured out.
Growing with God is a space that honours that ache. It doesn’t rush you out of it. It holds you gently in it.
What’s to Come
Over the next three Thursdays, I’ll be sharing a series of reflections that unpack the heartbeat behind Growing with God. We’ll look together at:
Thursday 3rd July – SPACE
Why it matters. How we hold it. What it looks like to make room for God in the noise.Thursday 10th July – EXPLORE
Why imagination isn’t childish – it’s sacred. What it means to dream with God again.Thursday 17th July – PRACTICE
How we gently move forward with rhythm, boundaries, and a sense of shared becoming.
Each post will offer a glimpse – not just of a resource, but of a rhythm. A way of slowing down enough to notice God’s quiet invitation in the midst of the ordinary.
Join a Taster Session
On Thursday 17th July, I’ll be sharing the full details of the next run of Growing with God taster sessions. They’re designed to give you a taste of the rhythm and the space – whether you come on your own, with a friend, or as part of a team.
Each session is £15 per person, and spaces are limited. You won’t need to prepare anything in advance – just bring yourself and a willingness to listen.
And if it’s been a while since you felt at home in your own soul – this might be the gentle nudge you’ve been waiting for.
This is your invitation.
Not to have it all worked out. Not to hurry. Just to come.
To make space. To listen. To grow.
